I don’t usually post reviews but gotta give credit where credit is due. This is the best weed eater I have ever used. The self winding option is simple and works great. After starting a two acre project and much beer and drama I threw the old gas powered weed eater in the dirt and bought this. Put it to the test and it worked great. It did burn through the batteries but had some extra from previous purchases. Save yourself some drama and buy one of these you won’t regret it.
The Ego string trimmer seems to handle most trimming jobs reasonably well. It has decent power for regular yard work and the battery lasts a fair amount of time before needing a recharge. The trimmer line feeds as expected, though at times it can take a little adjusting. The overall weight and balance are manageable, making it easier to use for longer periods. While it may not be flawless, it gets the job done and seems to be a solid choice for general use.
First time to use a battery operated string trimmer. Works excellent! High speed. Easy to advance line. Way easy to load the line with the powerload feature. Genius. Mine lasts about an hour. Takes about an hour to charge. Will probably invest in second battery. Bought through northern tool. Highly recommend!
I'm 5'2"...the shaft is too long. I can't angle it properly to the ground. The string that was initially wound on the spool fed unevenly. I'll try with new string. It is much stronger than another model. The battery is heavy!!
I’ve long struggled with battery weed wackers that were too weak, too frequent and cumbersome thread replacement, and short battery life. I finally gave in after watching Jim Cramer talk to the CEO of Home Depot nothing how these higher end weed wackers were more powerful than and easier to use than the gas powered ones. I did some research, bought one from Lowes, and have been so happy with it. All my issues I’ve had in the past don’t exist anymore…..and the cost for this model on sale was just a little more than the 3 previous ones I purchased (different brand). No regrets and weed whacking is now so fun to do….
I've used it a couple times so far - very light and it has plenty of power. My lawn isn't huge, but it lasted the 15 to 20 minutes to trim with no power issues. Very pleased with the build quality.
I'm enjoying my Ego ST1521S with powerload. I have a large brick patio area that was built approx 3 decades ago, so really tough weeds, grass, moss, etc... come thru the cracks. This trimmer blew thu all that with ease. The string advance just requires a light tap and you're good to go. Installing new string with the push of a button is simple, quick and almost fun. I also like having one less 2-stroke engine to maintain. Lastly, I have nerve damage and arthritis in my hands; the vibration is so minimal that I can use it for hours!
I purchased the EGO ST1520S - Power+ 15″ String Trimmer with POWERLOAD. The machine is a beast! You'll agree once you squeeze the trigger and witness the torque that nearly twists the tool from your grip. The only negative is the power can be too much before you have time to realize it. At that moment, you've consumed a little to much turf. No worries, it will grow back. The trimmer uses the 56 volt battery, a behemoth, but the weight is compensated in the well balanced tool design. I feel that the ST1520S is the epitome of the string trimmers. I doubt you could find one better. And it is offered by a great company, who honors their warranty. My original ST1520S died at 59 months and EGO quickly shipped a replacement. Did I forget to mention the powerload feature? With powerload you will no longer struggle with having to remove the head/spool to wrap new line, only to drop the spool and have to start over. With powerload, you simply thread the line through the middle of the head, adjust the line to equal lengths, and press the power load button. The machine reels in the 13 feet of line in 12 seconds and you're back to work. I highly recommend this trimmer!
We first bought the lawn mower and then after seeing how good it worked we went back and picked up the trimmer. Works really well and does the job. The auto load helps too.
Love the power load feature. I always hated loading the string and this feature makes it easy. Power is good for an overgrown creek bank so I am happy.
